They don't even ask you questions or anything. You get in the car, the instructor will say start the car and your off from there. The testing goes through a nearby neighborhood where 80% of the test is. A parallel park, a downhill park and thats it. Then we got on a busy street and he had me switch lanes and then we were back at the DMV and I had to park. That was it.
Oh, and contrary to what you hear, I wouldn't worry about parallel parking. Here, its only worth three points.

Maryland has the highest driving test failure rate in the country, 25% of tests fail. or maybe we're just bad drivers?
did you guys get your standard licence, or automatic? I think i want to learn to drive a standard, but ill probably buy a automatic car |

Automatic for sure. I would never drive a standard! =P
Also... do yall's states have different levels of licenses for the younger drivers? Like in Oklahoma...you have to be 16 to get your permit, unless you take driving school and then you can get it at 15 1/2. After having your permit for 6 months you get your intermediates drivers license, which is a drivers license with certain restrictions (i.e. You can only drive between 6 am and 11 pm and only 2 persons in the car at max, only one of them could be a friend, the other would have to be family.) And then after 6 months of your intermediates you get you regular license. Right now, I just turned 16 and I have my intermediates (I took driving school so I'm 6 months ahead of everyone else) and on Nov. 21st, I'll get my unrestricted license.

Oh man, i love standards. Too bad i have an automatic.
Anyway, in colorado, at least when i got my license, you had to be 15 to get your permit and 16 to get your license, but you have to take drivers ed before you can get your license. But they may have changed it since then. |

haha, once again jank on my state when you turn 15, with no classes or anything, just take a 32 question computer test,, and you get your permit,, which allows you to drive with unlimited people , as long as one of them has a liscense and as soon as you turn 16, you get your unrestricted liscense,, and its truly unrestricted,, and there is no auto or standard liscense, you get one, and you can drive anything that has a motor and dosent weigh over 12,000 lbs boy i feel so privelaged,, =]] not

In California ..
You take a written test for a permit when you're at least 15 1/2 (assuming you have a drivers ed certificate). If you pass, you get a permit to drive only when a licensed driver at least 25 (or 27? it's been awhile ..) is in the car with you. When you get your license, its provisional for a year, meaning you can only drive from 5am to midnight. Also, for the first 6 months you can't have any passengers under 20 in the car with you (If someone over 20 is with you, then it's ok to have someone under 20 then). And at any time before you're 21 .. if you're found with a BAC (blood alcohol) of more than 0.00 .. game over. A California Class C license will let you drive - a 2-axle vehicle with a GVWR of 26,000 lbs. or less. Keep in mind that a GVWR is the max capacity your vehicle can be loaded. This number is found on the sticker inside your drivers side door. |
