Default New Favorite Teacher

So, im pretty sure my teacher deserves an award of excellence, amongst many other things. We have just finished watching a movie "CRAZY" in class - its a French film. Anyways, for our discussion, and little exercise we talked about stereotypes, "Homosexual" and "Heterosexual" being compared in almost all of them. We talked about the main character - who struggled through his teenage years in a family of 5 boys, and he was gay.

As soon as she said "Je ne sais pas si vous le savez - mais ce n'est pas une choix de toute" (I don't know if you guys know this, but it isn't a choice at all) I became proud. She talked about how people are still scared to come out, and whipped out a few nice statistics about it. It was a nice touchy topic, and she said somethings which i'd have liked to say. "Not being a choice" one of them

Anyways, out of gratitude, I decided to write her an anonymous letter thanking her for what she has done - educating about 50 people in my graduating class about this topic which is usually avoided like the plague in most class discussions.

Thank you - I felt this was necessary

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I fucking love the French.

Good on her, good when people realise your not just choosing your lifestyle. Makes me happy when people can actually begin to understand.

That's amazing to hear. I have this one teacher who has talked to us numerous times about how wrong it is to make someone feel unsafe at school because they are gay, how a student came out to her and asked to stay in her room at lunch because he was having a hard time coming out. To top it off, she pulled me aside one day before class and asked me how DOS went [I cheered it up a bit for her- I was the only one out of 2600, not exactly a bully-free day). Still, after all the shit I went through on DOS, it made me so happy that she reached out and cared about me. So I pretty much love her a lot. It's great to hear that you had an experience similar to mine. Having open-minded teachers whose opinions get heard by 200 students a day is a great thing.
