And in England...and I'm guessing the rest of the "uk" you can basically get married, but you aren't allowed to call it that. Which is fine by me, I don't like the religious aspect anyway. But it's cool that places are offering it I guess...

i dont really see why all the straight people have such a problem with homosexuals

what there real problem is, is they follow too closely to a book thats been translated through so many languages you cant tell if moses was murphy......

and im so so sorry if that offended anyone, but frankly i don't care, because its pointless, were people, were real... were fertile, we have feelings,, and were able to reproduce if we so choose,, so why does the attraction in our brains make us so different from the next man in the gene pool??

its frankly really stupid

i was watching logo (its a glbt channel on satellite) the other day, and this woman was fired for getting married to another woman, and when they contested it, the company defended themselves with "we maintain a FAMILY environment" well whats so NOT FAMILY about a homosexual marriage??, and the worst part is,, that that company won there lawsuit

ive been really upset with the rest of america,, since i watched that show... but hey,, not much we can do,, our cars are going to get vandalized, were gonna get fired,, were gonna be discriminated against at the tax office, and were gonna just have to live with it, because all the states in American can legalize it, but thats not gonna change the conservatism views on ANYTHING, they are still gonna give us hell for a small piece of paper

sorry, i went on a rant =P

aha - that is ridiculous.
I read an article just yesterday that they want to temporarily ban gay marriage in california solely cause its conflicting with so many other laws at the moment. I don't really care about marriage, but i can't see why they can't temporarily ban the newly passed law until the sort it out a bit more. They should have thought that through before they did that. aha - good ole government, doesn't know its head from its ass.

Heh .. I love logo

What state was that in? California actually has laws against housing and employment discrimination .. race, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, etc. Which is nice .. if you're denied housing or a job because you're gay .. you can have their ass in court so fast, they won't even know what hit them. There are a couple gay guys at the company I work for, one is really open about it .. heh.

As far as the marriage law is concerned, I'm pleased that it passed .. but it still might get overturned in November. Right now, I don't care either way - I won't be getting married any time soon, so I'll just sit back and enjoy the pissing match.

Well .. the Federal law that covers discrimination (Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII)) doesn't cover orientation. It covers "employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin." - Civil Rights Act of 1964

On the other hand, CA has the Fair Employment and Housing Act .. which "prohibits employment discrimination based on race or color; religion; national origin or ancestry, physical disability; mental disability or medical condition; marital status; sex or sexual orientation; age, with respect to persons over the age of 40; and pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions." - California Fair Employment and Housing Act

With all that being said, I haven't looked into the laws on the federal level much .. so if I'm missing something, let me know.

LOL I'll join that group too. I think in 10 years time we'll look back and say 'was gay marriage banned? That's ridiculous'. And if it isn't I'll go to Canada to get married. Being against gay marriages because it goes against family values is dumb ... is it better values for two guys to live together unmarried?
I think getting equal rights for housing and employment is more important than gay marriage, but both should be legalized.

I agree. I think it'll be longer than ten years, but I'll cross my fingers. The ballot measure in November will definitely be a big test to see where the voters stand. I know TONS are against gay marriage (duh) but I think the measure has a good chance of failing because California is pretty progressive. If the measure passes, I am pretty much going to lose faith that any progress is ever going to be made on the issue.

I don't see how it can fail, seeing that there is literally no good reason why gay marriage should be banned.

Yeah .. but that's because you're gay

There are a lot of people who have serious personal problems with GBLT people. It has a lot to do with how they were raised, religious beliefs, etc. When things get dragged into court rooms, "good reason" becomes non-existent. Some people are truly scared of gay people .. and they don't want to see 2 guys kissing each other in the street. For you, me, and most of the people on here .. we don't understand it .. but that's because we have no problem with gay people and all that stuff.

I wish the bigots of inland Northern California and Inland Empire thought the same way as you! You're right, there is no good reason for it being banned, except that conservatives want their marriage to have value and don't want us to be able to be recognized as a family because if us gays can be recognized as a family, then anything can be recognized as a family. I wish I understood their logic.
