One benefit of whorishly high gas prices is that traffic isn't nearly as bad! The 405 is usually standstill from the 10 in Santa Monica to The Valley, but it was nearly empty the other day at 6 pm

i'm in one of the few areas of LA where freeways aren't the main mode of transportation, the only problem is that the City decided it'd be a good idea to make the roads 8 lanes wide. so people get in the freeway mentality speed like no tomorrow. woo foor going 70 in a 45 zone!

hah no i worded that badly, i mean the city streets are 45 sometimes. the unposted limit on the freeway is 65, but i can't remember the last time i saw someone go the speed limit [when there's not disgusting amounts of traffic]

Unless you're in a speed trap around here (and all the locals know EXACTLY where the little hills are that the cops hide behind) .. you won't get pulled over until you're doing 85 or higher. I've had cops fly by me doing 85. There are a lot of backroads around here that aren't patrolled at all .. and people do 90 or 100 on them like it's nothing special.

Highest speed limit in town is 45 .. posted speed limit on the freeways is 65.

Its virtually impossible for me to go completely without a car so I'm afraid I'll pay whatever the price may be. Rather than not buying it I'll just have to drive less and conserve as much as possible until alternatives become more available. I'm currently saving for a car that gets better gas mileage.

fuck driving, i've been hoofing it all around town lately...

i would seriously rather bake in the heat than play those ridiculous prices.

i'm getting a hybrid ASAP though... getting to work needs to be a little easier.

I was surprised by the chart in this article. To think some people almost pay $10 a gallon for gas! At that point, I'd say screw the annoying hills, I'll walk and take the Metro.
