Look up the Sacred Band of Thebes.

It was a military unit in Ancient Greece that was made up entirely of gay couples. It was only 300 men, and they fought incredible victories, and were considered to be the elite force of the Greek army at the time. They defeated an army three times their size and they fought another battle which was supposedly the most decisive military victory in Greek history, which liberated Thebes from Spartan control. They were defeated by King Philip (Alexander the Great's father), who led the Macedonian phalanxes against the Greek army. The entire Greek army fled from the phalanxes with the exception of the Sacred Band of Thebes, who refused to surrender. King Philip was said to have come up to their bodies after the battle, realized who they were, and publicly announced that not a single person in the entire world could ever say that any act ever performed by the Sacred Band could ever be called immoral or questionable. They were buried side by side in Thebes, and a statue of a lion was built on their gravesite as a memorial to the Sacred Band and their bravery.


Sounds amazing... we need to have a battalion like that in our army...
