What the fuck is with the anger? People don't want to act like a femme, and they don't like it.. thats their own business, just as it is yours. It's Called "Preference". You missed the point entirely. I don't hate "straight acting gays" I hate people who feel the need to call themselves that. It reeks of self loathing. I'm not mad at people who aren't femmes, I'm mad at people who go around proclaiming their hate for "stereotypical gays" like they aren't human or something.

As for your last point, that's entirely my point. We're all in this together so stop hating the "femmes", you're a "femme" too. Sex with a guy is about as "femme" as it gets.

Femme doesn't describe men having sex with men mate, that would be homosexuality. Femme is describing someones personality.

And as for hating them, people grow tired of their demeanor, same thing happens in the hetero world, it can't be avoided, no need causing un-necessary hate, just rise above it all.

oh sh**! i knew that this was bound to happen. there is always a thread like this on every gay-oriented discussion forum. might as well put my two cents in. anyway, it's like this, everybody needs to stop hating on each other. we really are all on the same boat here regardless of how masculine or how effeminate we are. i understand that everybody has preferences and i am no exception. i tend to not find the more effeminate gay male attractive. however, that does not mean that i will demean or bash the more effeminate gays. effeminate gays are not exactly in my circle of friends either but, i'm not closed-minded to the point where i refuse to associate with them. everybody needs to grow up and stop this hate mongering. its ridiculous. shouting at each other isn't exactly going to help in the advancement of gay rights.

Threads like these always happen, curiously, always in the reverse. I wanted to get in first, so to speak.

It's not about preferences and that's just a shallow way of looking at it. It's about why so many people seem to hate other gays because they're "bitchy hairdressers with a lisp" or whatever. Maybe you should examine why it is you dislike "femmes" and then get over it. It's not an offensive personality trait.

Because having sex with a man is what a woman does. Sex and reproduction are the only reason evolution gave us separate and distinct sexes, not so we could like sports and pink stilletos. Having sex with a man is as "feminine" as it gets since most traits thought of as "feminine" are only thought of as "feminine" because of social conditioning.

Because "I'm gay but I act straight! is such a hideously offensive, outdated, and self loathing statement. It reinforces stereotypes, it's just like saying to yourself "I like men but at least I can PRETEND to be straight." It's fine to not be a flamer, that just means you're boring, but please don't shit all over 40+ years of civil rights activism by calling yourself straight acting while you're at it. Bulvox, you say you're straight acting to make a distinction between a gay man like IMB and yourself. Whether intentional or not, it is what you are doing. By comparing yourself to a straight guy, you are perpetuating the dated ideal that gay men are all feminine.

What IMB is calling for anyone who classifies themselves as 'straight-acting' to call it something different. 'Masculine,' maybe, or 'jock.'
