Alright, I know our lovely member t.A.T.u. has created one or two random threads about these girls, but I figured I'd introduce a formal one.

t.A.T.u. are a duet of two girls from Russia that had some brief popularity in the U.S. and the U.K. in 2003. They're the biggest gay icon in Russia, and one of the best selling duos as well. They've done press appearances and even walked in the Moscow Pride (and if you know anything about Russia or eastern Europe - then you know what a big risk that is in that region) If you still have no idea who t.A.T.u. are...

The video for this song was actually banned from being shot in the U.K., Russia and Japan because it featured over 100 GBLT fans all dressed the same running through the streets. The video was left mostly unedited, and includes Yulia getting arrested for refusing to stop the shoot.

Dangerous and Moving - This is their 2nd album, and it deals with moving on after acceptance, and not being afraid to show people who you really are, and fighting for it as well.

Neither of the girls self identify as lesbians. Yulia identifies as bisexual to please people, and Lena identifies as primarily heterosexual who fell in love with another woman. The two don't really like to put labels on their sexuality since they believe everyone should be free to love who they want and not have to worry about making sure their orientation has a name tag.

wow, so that's awesome to see another great t.A.T.u. fan. I never made a formal thread because I just figured everyone else didn't like them because most people I come across don't so I never bothered. Anyways, I'm a huge t.A.T.u. fanatic and you all can ask me any questions about them to me as well. I don't know about anyone else, but my love for t.A.T.u. is cuz it's cuz of them that I came to terms with my sexuality. Without ever finding out about them, I don't know what I would have done; I'd still be lost right now. Their music is such an inspiration to me, and the girls themselves are idols to me and because of them I've come to terms with being gay, supporting love without boundaries, and finally becoming a better person. So t.A.T.u. isn't just a band in my outlook, they're an inspirational phenomenon which helped me when I was shrouded in confusion and I have a deep profound glory for them in my heart and life. So if you're experiencing the same confusion, maybe they can do the same for you too.

I love t.A.T.u!

I never knew the entire story behind their sexuality,
but i knew they weren't really lesbians.
When i found that out, i didn't take it as "Those lying whores",
but i actually felt a bit better about them.
If they're willing to push for free love and do it so harmoniously
through music, even with not being labeled lesbians, then more power to them.
Ive always loved their music, even if it has evolved quite a bit.

They dont need their lesbian image to sell out.
I always kind of saw it as a role they played merely
to reach out to a whole new fan-base.

Yeah, a lot of fans really felt betrayed after they actually told everyone that they're not actually lesbians, they just love each other. But it's not like their message or what they fight for changed along with that. They still support gay rights, especially in Russia. They had stones thrown through their car windows in downtown Moscow for marching in the pride parade, and speaking out against the city's ban on it in a press conference. Really dangerous stuff in Moscow. People have been beaten (by police and anti-gay activists) to the point that they need hospitalization. I adore these girls.

My signature is the Russian translation for the seven deadly sins. The sin in bold, is the sin that I'm feeling I most represent that day. Currently, I've been representing lust quite a bit - "Pokxot". The question in italics asks everyone else what their daily sin, or poison is. =]

Russian is a beautifully intricate language. It flies off of the tongue. I can upload some of their Russian music if you'd like.
