Default AirTran Airways

Don't ever fly this airline. My family booked it because it's the cheapest flight and I can definitely see reason for the price. We were flying the red-eye flight from LAX to Boston connecting through Baltimore [hey riley!]. So at the ticket counter in Los Angeles the girl freaks out because I don't have a drivers license, even though I'm fifteen and therefore ineligible [granted I look older]. So her solution is to mark me for extra screening and let TSA molest me.

Once I actually get to the gate and get my Starbucks addiction taken care of, I find out my plane is delayed from 1005P until 1205A. Oh well, it gave me some time to work on summer reading. Anyway, getting on the plane showed that it is a pretty lackluster onboard experience. It's like Southwest but 100x cheesier.

So then I get to Baltimore [hey again riley!] and I have a 25 minute connection. For anyone who has ever flown, you know that an hour layover is tight. Let alone 25 minutes! The boarding for the 2nd flight started while I was in the air on the 1st flight. After running through BWI airport, I made it to the gate as they were calling the final boarding call. I was happy to finally be on the plane until I got my seat. I'd never experienced anything quite like it. The plane was a Boeing 717 [gag me]. I was seated in row 31, the very last row. The kicker was that my row had no window. The real kicker is the reason why. A Boeing 717 has it's engines in the BACK of the plane, right next to row 31. I have never heard such a loud sound in my life. I literally sat next to a jet engine. As I took off [bye Riley] wearing earplugs, I swear I thought I was going to die! The flight attendants literally had to yell to ask if I wanted some nasty cookieish thing.

Anyway, my point is this: whore yourself on the street for the extra $100 or so it is NOT to fly on AirTran. It's a pretty sad excuse for an airline. Also, everyone working there seemed like they wanted to shoot themselves in the face. It was like Wal Mart but 30000 feet in the air.

Damn, I wish I could've jumped out the plane! it'd be better than 3 inches of legroom and a girl next to me purposely avoiding me every time I try to make contact!

hey ryan! that certainly does sound like the trip from hell! the best airline in my opinion was Virgin. the flight attendents could not have been nicer. when we flew to Chicago the plane was 10 minutes leaving and the lady came on the speaker and said 'ladies and gentlemen we are just about ready to leave, we're just waiting for 2 more passengers who missed the final boarding call, as they get on the plane please give them a round of applause so they remember to get to the plane on time next time'. the whole plane cheered when the two stragglers got on, the lady was so embaressed ... it was hilarious.

I've actually flown AirTran several times in the last couple years .. and it was probably nicer than some of my other recent flying experiences. All of the flights were from LAX -> ATL / ATL -> LAX. It is a "budget" airline .. the lack of TVs in the plane confirm this. We flew on 737s though .. and when I went to ATL in April .. both flights, they told us the plane was less than a month old .. and that bitch was clean. The ride was nice, it was quiet .. the people had a sense of humor .. and you had XM radio in every single seat.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience .. You'll get that on any airline. You would of been cussing at AA if you were supposed to fly with them when the FAA grounded all the MD80s .. Don't even get me started on American, United, Delta, US Airways or a few others.

Wow I have been on some good and bad flights. My most resont one to Alabama was a flight from hell. First there was a thunder storm in Atlanta and I had to have a connector flight because I guess Montgomery airport couldent support big planes that I am used to that day. So I fly a connector flight over and the engines kept going out and only one engine was working and we drop about one thousand feet five times. The entire time the air conditioner was barerly working so it was blazing hot and the electricity kept going out. A hour later we are in Montgomery Alabama which is a extremely small airport by the way and I as so happy to be on the ground. When I fly to Australia for a 15 hour flight. It is so much fun because all the seats have a personal TV in front of them where you can play games. watch TV, and Movies. Those planes are huge they are two stories.

its kinda sad, actually
Montgomery is our states capital, but they have the smallest (and shittiest) aiport, all there interstates are crap, and they just suck all together

you shoulda flown to the airport here in mobile, its frickin HUGE, by Alabama standards, and you so coulda stopped by and seen me, =P

i live like , 15 mins from that airport, its supa cool =P

blech, i HATE AirTran

I guess it's really true that you get what you pay for. I flew from DIA to Atlanta and then had a 4 hour delay because of poor weather. The ride from Atlanta to Raleigh-Durham was torture, the attendants were bitchy, the nasty cookies were about 3 years old, and i got hit in the head with the food service cart. On the way back was just as bad. We got on a plane that looked like it had been built in the early 70's and was freakin scary. The pilot was kinda freakish too. When we taxied onto the runway, he just whipped around the corner and took off. I swear I felt the plane skid about 50 feet to the left before we were off the ground.
